CS reviews steps taken to improve agriculture sector

Punjab Chief Secretary Azam Suleman Khan on Wednesday reviewed different tasks within the agriculture sector in the province, together with provision of amenities and training to farmers, use of generation to improve production and profitability of commodities, public-private partnership and internship programme for agri graduates.

He reviewed the tasks all through a gathering held at Agriculture Department here. Provincial Minister for Agriculture Noaman Ahmad Langrial additionally attended the assembly that took vital decisions about improving water management and administrative affairs of fruits and vegetable markets, besides the selections to extend production of agricultural commodities like pulses, honey, tulsi, saunf, kalvanji, ispaghol and mashroom. The chief secretary (CS) directed the Agriculture Department to take concrete steps for executing the high minister’s special bundle in order that its advantages could succeed in the farmers as well as most people. He additionally issued directions to the officials concerned regarding the measures to struggle locusts’ assault in Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan. The CS confident the provincial minister that each one related departments would lengthen complete cooperation to the initiatives in agriculture sector so that the federal government’s policy on agriculture might be carried out.

Agriculture Secretary Wasif Khursheed briefed the meeting that initially an internship programme was being started at a value of Rs 200 million for agri graduates of 10 tehsils who could be paid a stipend of Rs 35,000 each and every monthly. The interns would impart coaching to farmers about high-value agriculture and learn how to beef up profitability, he added.

The CS used to be knowledgeable that a Rs 25 million undertaking were finalised to fortify honey production through use of recent technologies.

The agriculture secretary said at the moment 104 fruit and vegetable markets were fully practical in the province. The Agriculture Department has established 32 farmers’ platforms in Model bazaars and 50 within the vegetables and fruit markets where 169,845 maunds of commodities were offered and as many as 1,685,573 shoppers have benefited from that, the agriculture secretary mentioned.
